MAJOR TRADITION POOLS

A SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE BASED COMPETITION

Format

MT Tournaments allow users to show off their skills and Major golf expertise by choosing a team of FOUR golfers to compete in a ‘best ball’ format against foursomes submitted by others in the Major Tradition community. Users can create their own individual competitions and season-long leagues to share with friends and family free of charge.

Contest Period

Each event will last the length of the associated tournament, typically beginning on Thursday and ending on Sunday of the tournament weekend. Scores will be considered for each 18-hole round, not including any play-off holes. Seasons events can be chosen by commissioners and may begin with the Masters and end with the Tour Championship.

How to Play

Each event will last the length of the associated tournament, typically beginning on Thursday and ending on Sunday of the tournament weekend. Scores will be considered for each 18-hole round, not including any play-off holes. Seasons events can be chosen by commissioners and may begin with the Masters and end with the Tour Championship.

Single competitions...

Build a pool for the Masters, the US Open, the PGA Championship - or if you're across the pond - the British Open! Compete over the weekend to see who's foursome outperforms.
CHOOSE. WATCH. WIN.

CHOOSING A FOURSOME

  1. Each competition’s entries will consist of four golfers participating in that weekend’s professional golf tournament. Substitute golfers may be selected as decided by the league commissioner and will be used as noted in (4) below.

  2. Each participating golfer will be assigned a salary. The foursome selected must fall within the commissioner’s chosen salary limit which will be noted on the submission page.

  3. Commissioners may choose to ensure entries are unique and that no submission of four starting golfers is the same as any other submitted foursome. In this case, if you submit a duplicate foursome to one that has already been submitted, your submission will not be saved and you must change your entry. Commissioners may also choose to allow only one entry allowed per team. If events only permit single entries, submissions after a user’s first submission will not be captured.

  4. In the case a starting golfer withdraws from the tournament prior to teeing off in the second round, selected substitutes will be used. Substitutes will replace the starting golfer ONLY for rounds in which that golfer has not played any holes (i.e. if a golfer withdraws 4 holes into the first round, they will only be subbed from round 2 on…). Subs will only replace single golfers, and if more starting golfers withdraw than substitutes available, no replacement will be made beyond the number of substitutes. Golfers who withdraw after teeing off for round 2 (or in rounds 3 or 4) will not be replaced.

Scoring

  1. Participants will compete in a best-ball format, where each user’s score on any given hole is the lowest score of the golfers in that rounds foursome.

  2. Golfers who have withdrawn from the event or are cut in later rounds will not count towards scoring, unless replaced by a substitute as noted above.

  3. Participants will rank from lowest total score to highest.

  4. Ties are broken by live golfer scoring position, so that if multiple participants are at any time tied, the player with the professional golfer placing highest will break the tie. In the event the tied foursomes highest ranked golfer is the same or tied with an equal placing professional golfer, the second highest placing golfers in each foursome will be considered, followed by the third and fourth.

ALL SEASON LONG...

Build a season for all four majors, and cap it off with the FedexCup Playoffs. Compete across golf’s biggest events to see who can consistently pick ’em.

REGULAR SEASON

Compete in events as described above for all four PGA Tour majors. Win points in each event by ranking highest on the leaderboard at the end of each weekend. Points will be awarded as determined by each league’s commissioners to the top X participants, with the participant who wins that week earning X points, second place earning X-1, and continuing until no points are awarded.

Commissioners will choose the number of playoff spots available as well as how many automatic qualifiers will be awarded to the top N participants each week. Remaining playoff positions will be awarded to the participants earning the most points throughout the regular season.

PLAYOFFS

After qualifying for the playoffs, submit foursomes beginning with the FedexCup. All qualifiers will submit the first week. Commissioners may choose to award a ‘starting score’ to qualifiers based on that season’s performance such that the top X% of qualifers – as determined by season points – begin the week at an advantage of Y strokes. The same ‘starting score’ option is available for the second and third week of the playoffs, based on the previous week’s performance.

After each of the first two playoff weeks, the bottom-placing half of the field will be cut for the next week’s event. The participant who wins the Tour Championship will take home that season’s trophy.
